Welcome to Venturer Scouts
2nd Senior Section
Venturer Scouts are the fourth section of the 33rd Derry Ballinascreen Scouts.
There is no official evening for our Venturers, ensuring flexibility, with meetings to be arranged on an evening that best suits everyone.
What's it all about?
Fun, Friendship and Adventure
It's hard to explain what Venturing is all about! This is because, as a Venturer, you could end up doing almost anything - Imagination is the Key!
You can challenge yourself, try new things, achieve your goals; and most importantly... have a laugh with a group of like-minded young people from your local area!
The Possibilities are Endless
You might decide to go along to the Venturer Scout Moot - and meet with Ventures from around the country; then again, you might hit the Galtees for a weekend of adventurous hill walking!
In a fit of madness, you might decide to try it all; and really explore what Venturers has to offer you.
But with all that's possible, it might take you a while to get around to do everything!
Mount Errigal, 2002
Co. Donegal
As a Venturer, you could explore the lesser-known parts of Ireland on Challenge, like Mount Errigal in Co. Donegal, with a height of 749 meters, (2,457 feet) which was conquered by our Venture Scouts in 2002!
Venturing in Style
Our Venturer Scouts in 2002 were fortunate to stay in sheltered accommodation (two nights) during their excellent expedition in Donegal.
Steep Uphill Challenge
Donegal is a beautiful Irish County, thus making an ideal get-away for any Expedition; and the Mount Errigal Adventure never disappointed in terms of a Steep Uphil Challenge.
The trip to Mount Errigal was nothing short of 'Pure Brilliance' in terms of Challenge and Adventure, including the breathtaking scenery.
The ascent was tough going, but though 'Grit Determination, Resilience, and Perseverance,' then our Venturers conquered the Mountain.
The view from the top was spectacular, and whilst enjoying a strong cup of tea, some even joked that they could even see the main Draperstown Street from up there!
Well Deserved Rest
With the hard ascent over the rest was easy, leaving the effortless downhill strole back to the local, where they had a well deserved feed of Irish stew in front of the warm fire.
The Explorer Belt
An Opportunity of a Lifetime
As a Venturer you could find yourself trekking with a friend across some far off country on the Explorer Belt.
This 'Opportunity of a Lifetime' is offered to the Venturer Scouts, as they fly off to an un-known country, (Italy, Lithuania, Poland) with the teams of 2 attempting to cover 200km within the space of 10 days.
A Challenge like None Other
And if the 200km Expedition wasn’t enough within a restricted time scale, the groups must complete a certain number of tasks, including a logbook and projects to gain an insight into another countries culture.
An Incredible Achievement
In the end up, a well deserved 'Explorer Belt' each is awarded to successful teams, although it is the participation that is the important factor.
