Welcome to Scouts
Senior Section
Scouts are the third section of the 33rd Derry Ballinascreen Scouts.
Sir Robert Baden-Powell
The Chief Scout of the World
(Above) BP founded the Scouts in 'August of 1907,' with a 2 weeks camp at 'Brownsea Island' in Dorsetshire, England.
2007: 100 Years of Scouting
The Year 2007 marked the '100th Anniversary of Scouting' - and if Baden-Powell was still alive, then he would be very proud to see his creation still going strong today as it was back then.
What's it all about?
Fun, Friendship and Adventure
The Scouts participate in a range of activities, which gives them the opportunity to experience 'Fun, Friendship and Adventure,' with challenges designed to meet their needs.
The Scout Promise
Oath, Duty, Honour
The Scout Promise is:
On My Honour, I promise that I will do my best. To do my duty to God; To help other people; And to keep the Scout Law.
The Scout Law
Rules, Code, Tennants
The Scout Law is:

Be Prepared
Scout Patrols
(Fox, Tiger, Bear, Wolf)
During their weekly meetings, Scouts take part in activities and challenges designed to train the individual and the Patrol, so that they can take a fuller and more rewarding part in outdoor adventures.
Every Patrol in Scouts has a different Standard or Animal Insignia.
When 33rd Derry began a selection of Animals were selected, which still make up the Patrols of today. (Fox, Tiger, Bear, Wolf)
Scout Patrol Roles
(PL, APL, SPL)
Every Scout belongs to a certain Patrol...
Each Patrol has a Patrol Leader (PL) and Assistant Patrol Leader. (APL)
Senior Scouts can be become Senior Patrol Leaders. (SPL’s)
Scout Patrols create a strong sense of belonging, helping to promote teamwork, with everyone working together, helping each another for badge work and group activities, thus achieving the Spirit of Adventure.
Scout Activities
Activities to Suit All
There are both indoor and outdoor Activities, but both help to enhance the Scout's skills and experience, which put there weekly meeting theory in to practice.
The activities normally associated with our scouts include: hiking, camping, hill walking, cycling, canoeing, orienteering, pioneering and river walking, to highlight just a few.
Scout Competitions
Quiz, Football, Shield, Phoenix...
A bit of competition brings out the best in us all.
In 33rd Derry there are numerous team based events to promote 'teamwork, team spirit and leadership', while everyone enjoys the 'Fun, Friendship and Adventure.'
The Quiz
Over the years, the Regional Quiz has been a fine test of knowledge, and 33rd Derry even took the Gold back in the day within 1997!
The winning team then went on to participate in the 'All-Ireland National Scout Quiz in Wexford', 1998, and it was a most enjoyable adventure for everyone involved.
The Football
The Regional Indoor Football was always a main highlight to many with fast and furious action.
There would be 2 five-a-side teams: 'The A-Team' and 'The B Team'
Although we often went out on Penalty Shoot Outs, "The A-Team's" - of 1997 and 2003 - both took home the Gold in spectacular fashion.
The Shield
This popular team based competition involved the teamwork of 8 individuals, representing their Unit, where the overall winners would achieve that much sought after Perpetual Shield.
The Phoenix
The Regional Shield Champions - all Patrols of 8 - from all over Ireland, who qualified for this prestigious 4 day event; they had the opportunity to go for Gold...and to be crowned All-Ireland National Scouting Champions.
